The victims, who had gathered in the church to worship and study the word of God, were senselessly targeted because of the color of their skin.

The loss of these innocent lives sent shockwaves through the Charleston community and beyond, sparking a national conversation about race, hate, and gun violence in America. The heinous act of violence exposed the deep-seated racism that still exists in our society and served as a stark reminder of the work that still needs to be done to achieve true equality and justice for all.
