Food Contamination Incident on Air India Flight

A week after a shocking incident on an Air India flight from Bangalore to San Francisco, where a passenger found a blade-like metal piece in his food, the airline has confirmed the presence of a “foreign object” in the meal. The airline revealed that the object originated from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of its catering partner.

Air India’s Response

In a statement, Air India’s Chief Customer Experience Officer Rajesh Dogra stated, “Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the meal of a guest aboard one of our flights. After investigation, it has been identified as coming from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of our catering partner.” The airline took immediate action and initiated a probe following the passenger’s social media post highlighting the issue.

Passenger’s Account

The passenger, Mathures Paul, a journalist, expressed his shock at the discovery, stating, “Air India food can cut like a knife. Hiding in its roasted sweet potato and fig chaat was a metal piece that looked like a blade. I got a feel of it only after chewing the grub for a few seconds. Thankfully, no harm was done.” Paul raised concerns about the catering service and the potential dangers, especially if such an incident had occurred with a child.

Air India’s Remedial Measures

Acknowledging the severity of the incident, Air India worked closely with its catering partner to implement stricter measures to prevent any recurrence. This included more frequent inspections of the processing equipment, especially after handling hard vegetables. Dogra reiterated the airline’s commitment to ensuring the safety and quality of its in-flight meals.

Apology and Customer Engagement

Air India extended a sincere apology to the affected customer and expressed regret for the distressing experience. The airline emphasised its dedication to customer satisfaction and pledged to address any concerns promptly. This incident marked the second food-related issue on Air India’s long-haul flights in recent times.
