In a heartbreaking turn of events on one fateful night in mid-August 2023, tragedy struck the quiet town of Tumwater. The Tumwater police were called to North Seventh Avenue near Desoto Street Southwest after reports of a man found dead. The victim was identified as Sean O’Leary, a beloved drummer in the local music community.

The initial investigation suggested a possible hit-and-run crime, prompting the police to reach out to the public for any information that could shed light on the incident. However, as the investigation unfolded, it became clear that the circumstances surrounding O’Leary’s death were far more complex than initially thought.

The Incident Unveiled

On the night of August 15, a 28-year-old Tumwater man was driving home when he noticed a body lying in the middle of the road. He, along with two other drivers who had also stopped, discovered O’Leary on the street. The driver of a Ford F-150 Raptor truck, who had swerved to avoid what he thought was a pallet in the road, was later found to have inadvertently run over O’Leary.

The police investigation revealed that O’Leary, who had been drinking heavily that day, had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.285. The driver of the Ford Raptor, equipped with tires designed for off-road terrain, was unlikely to have noticed running over O’Leary while he was lying in the roadway.

O’Leary’s parents, Daniel and Marie, expressed frustration over unanswered questions and a lack of closure.
