The search for a missing 4-year-old child in east Alabama has ended tragically after the boy was found deceased in a backyard swimming pool in Cleburne County. Cleburne County Coroner Adam Downs confirmed that the child, identified as DJ Jarrell, was discovered in the pool following a two-hour search on Saturday night.

According to Downs, the child had “slipped away” from his house around 6 p.m. and was later found in the pool. DJ’s family has stressed the importance of swimming pool safety, urging parents with young children to ensure that pool gates are locked and secure to prevent unauthorized access.

Ranburne Police Department issued a missing child alert at 8:41 p.m. on Saturday after the 4-year-old boy was reported missing. The child was last seen near the area of Cleburne County Road 49 and County Road 111 in Ranburne at approximately 5:55 p.m. Tragically, at 9:33 p.m., the police department confirmed that the child had been found deceased in the pool.

The search effort involved numerous volunteers, law enforcement officials, and emergency response personnel from Cleburne County and surrounding areas. The water in the pool was described as very cloudy, making it difficult to locate the child immediately.

The official cause of death will not be released until after an autopsy is conducted by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences. This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of pool safety measures and constant vigilance when young children are around swimming pools.
