In a heartbreaking turn of events, a family of four was found dead in their flat in Jahangirpura, Surat. The victims, identified as Jashuben Keshavbhai Vadher, 58, Shantuben Vadher, 55, Gauben Hirabhai Mewada, 55, and Haribhai Danbhai Mewada, 60, were discovered in their residence on the fifth floor of E building in Rajhans Residency. The incident has left the community reeling in shock and sorrow.

Initial Suspicions and Investigation
Upon arriving at the scene, the Surat police initially suspected food poisoning or asphyxia due to a possible gas leak from the operational gas geyser in the flat. The family had gathered at Jashuben’s house the previous evening to visit her son, who was recovering from surgery. They had consumed mango pulp and rotis from a nearby hotel, with Shantuben Vadher reportedly vomiting before her demise.
Forensic Examination and Findings
The police have requested the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to determine the exact cause of death. Samples have been collected, and the results are awaited. DCP Rakesh Barot stated that the investigation is considering both food poisoning and gas inhalation as possible causes. Further actions will be taken based on the post-mortem report.

Jashuben Vadher, the owner of the flat and a soon-to-be retiree, was joined by her sisters Shantuben and Gauben, as well as brother-in-law Haribhai, for a family gathering that ended in tragedy. A relative who arrived with breakfast the next morning made the chilling discovery and alerted the authorities. Jayendrasinh, a family member, recalled the somber moment: “My aunt owned the house, and her husband passed away from COVID-19 in 2021.” The close-knit community has been left mourning the loss of the Vadher family.
