Sergeant Jarred Bishop of the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit has been diligently investigating the tragic murder of 17-year-old Francisco Ramirez from Mecca. As the investigation progresses, a person of interest has been identified as 20-year-old David Espinoza, also from Mecca. Espinoza is currently wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for an unrelated robbery and assault with a deadly weapon case.

On the fateful night of March 25, 2024, deputies from the Thermal Sheriff’s Station responded to a call about an assault with a deadly weapon on Miramar Drive in Mecca. During their investigation, evidence of a shooting was found in the 99000 block of Via Costa Brava. However, no victim or suspect was initially located. Subsequently, a deceased male was discovered in the vicinity of Sea View Way and 72nd Avenue, believed to be linked to the earlier assault.
**Central Homicide Unit Takes Over**
Given the circumstances, the scene was secured, and the Riverside Sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was called in to lead the investigation. The victim’s identity is being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next-of-kin. As the investigation unfolds, no further information will be released at this time.
