Investigators reached out to a distant genetic relative of the victim, who suggested sharing the forensic renderings of Jane Doe on a Facebook group dedicated to missing women from the 1970s and 1980s. Just a month after the images were posted, a woman came forward, believing that the Lake Forest Jane Doe could be her long-lost mother.
The Tragic Tale of Maritza Glean Grimmett
The woman who contacted investigators was none other than the daughter of Maritza Glean Grimmett, a Panamanian native who had married a U.S. Marine in 1978. After giving birth to a daughter, the family moved around the United States before Maritza mysteriously disappeared in California in 1979. Her family never heard from her again, leaving them with unanswered questions for decades.

With DNA samples provided by Maritza’s relatives, Jane Doe was positively identified as Maritza Glean Grimmett, who was just 20 years old at the time of her disappearance.
