A 43-year-old man from Vancouver, Vadim V. Sashchenko, tragically lost his life in a fatal shooting involving the Vancouver police near the waterfront. The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that Sashchenko succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds to the torso.

Details of the Incident
The incident unfolded on a Saturday afternoon when Vancouver police received a distress call about a man allowing his German shepherd dog to roam freely in the 100 block of Southeast Columbia Way. The caller reported that the dog had already bitten someone and that the man was carrying what appeared to be a firearm.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers located Sashchenko with his dog in the vicinity of Columbia Way and Columbia Street. As the officers approached him, Sashchenko allegedly pointed a firearm at them, prompting one of the officers to open fire, resulting in his untimely demise.
Aftermath of the Shooting
Following the shooting, Sashchenko was pronounced dead at the scene, while his aggressive dog was safely secured by authorities. The dog, which remained hostile even after its owner’s demise, was taken into custody and transported to the Humane Society for Southwest Washington. Additionally, one individual sought medical attention for bite wounds inflicted by the dog during the chaotic incident.
