Tragic Vehicle Collision Claims Lives of Overland Park Woman and Colorado Man
A devastating vehicle collision in Warrensburg on Monday has left two people dead, including an Overland Park woman and a man from Erie, Colorado. The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred when a 16-year-old driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel, resulting in a fatal crash near the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Business 50.

Details of the Collision
According to the traffic crash report, a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado veered off the roadway after the teenage driver nodded off, then re-entered the road at the intersection of Business 50, becoming airborne and colliding with a 2022 Acura RDX. Both vehicles then went off the east side of the road, with the Acura striking a road sign. Tragically, the driver and one occupant of the Acura, identified as Patricia Moffet, 83, of Overland Park, and Derek Moffett, 55, of Erie, Colorado, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Survivors in Serious Condition
Two other passengers in the Acura, aged 19 and 16, were airlifted to a hospital in Kansas City and remain in serious condition, according to Missouri State Highway Patrol Corporal Justin Ewing. The driver of the Silverado was also taken to a hospital for treatment.
