In a tragic turn of events, Organised Crime Squad detectives in Newcastle have unearthed a buried truck as part of their investigation into the death of a Brazilian diver. The incident occurred on Monday 9 May 2022, when emergency services were called to the Port of Newcastle after a male diver was found unresponsive in the water. Shockingly, 54kg of cocaine was discovered nearby, adding a sinister twist to the already grim discovery.

A Devastating Loss
Despite the valiant efforts of witnesses and paramedics, the man, identified as 31-year-old Brazilian national Bruno Borges Martins, could not be revived. The authorities were not able to find the whereabouts of a second diver, 32-year-old Jhoni Fernandes Da Silva, further complicating the investigation.
Multi-Agency Effort
Local police initially began inquiries into the incident before State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad took over the investigation under Strike Force Groove. The collaborative effort involved multiple law enforcement agencies including the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Australian Border Force (ABF), Northern Territory Police (NTPOL), and Queensland Police Service (QPS).
Continued Investigation
Two men have been charged in connection with the case and are currently facing legal proceedings. In a bid to gather more information, strike force detectives recently executed a search warrant at a property in Menangle. During the search, they uncovered a white Mitsubishi Fuso truck believed to have been used in the drug-related incident that led to the diver’s tragic demise.
