Tragic Murder-Suicide in Logan County
A devastating incident unfolded in Logan County, as a husband tragically shot and killed his wife before taking his own life. The Logan County Sheriff’s Office reported that the horrific murder-suicide occurred just after 8 a.m. on Monday morning, outside a home in the 3400 block of Wildwood Road in northern Edmond.

Victims identified
The victim was identified as Catalina Jimenez, a 43-year-old woman. The suspect responsible for the heinous act was identified as Manuel Alaniz Cardenas, aged 51. The sheriff’s office disclosed that Jimenez had been at the residence to pick up a coworker when the violent altercation took place.
Tragic Sequence of Events
According to investigators, Cardenas arrived at the scene and pulled up behind the vehicle where Jimenez and her coworker were seated. Without warning, he exited his vehicle and fired two fatal shots into the driver’s side, resulting in the untimely death of Jimenez. Subsequently, Cardenas proceeded to the passenger’s side where the coworker was situated.
Logan County Sheriff Damon Devereaux recounted the harrowing account, stating that the coworker managed to flee the scene. Tragically, Cardenas then turned the gun on himself, succumbing to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The coworker was promptly taken to the hospital for precautionary measures.
History of Domestic Issues
Authorities revealed that the couple had a troubling history of domestic-related incidents, with Cardenas having been previously arrested. Sheriff Devereaux expressed regret that despite urging Jimenez to seek a protective order against her husband, she had not done so.

“In situations like this, the court system can provide protective measures, but we rely on the cooperation of the victim to take action,” Devereaux emphasized.
