The False Threat and Investigation

On June 4, authorities at IGI Airport received an email at 10:50 pm stating that there was a bomb on board an Air Canada flight bound for Toronto. Following security protocols, a thorough inspection was conducted, and it was determined that the threat was a hoax. The investigation into the email revealed that the ID used to send the email had been created just hours before the incident. Through tracing the IP address, authorities were able to locate the source of the email in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

The Teenager’s Motive and Actions

During questioning, the 13-year-old confessed that he was inspired by news reports of a similar bomb hoax at Mumbai airport. Curious to see if he could evade detection, he created a new email ID on his mobile phone and used his mother’s WiFi connection to send the threatening email. The teenager then promptly deleted the ID, but later felt excitement upon seeing news coverage of the incident. Despite his initial thrill, he refrained from sharing the truth with his parents out of fear.

Consequences and Juvenile Justice

The Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport) emphasized the seriousness of making hoax calls, stating that such actions can result in severe penalties, including imprisonment. The 13-year-old was brought before the Juvenile Justice Board, which ultimately decided to release him into the custody of his parents. The incident serves as a reminder of the potential consequences of irresponsible actions and the importance of understanding the gravity of such pranks.

Appeal for Responsible Behaviour

Authorities have urged the public to refrain from making hoax calls or threats for amusement, emphasizing the potential legal repercussions and impact on public safety.
