Friday Night Tragedy on Benning Road
The first incident took place on Friday night in the 1700 block of Benning Road in Northeast Washington. Police received a distress call at 11:43 p.m. and rushed to the scene to find a man, later identified as 45-year-old Darryl Williams, suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite their best efforts, Williams succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital.
Sunday Morning Chaos in Northwest and Southeast
The violence continued into Sunday morning, with two separate incidents occurring in the 1900 block of Vermont Street in Northwest Washington and the 2200 block of Minnesota Ave in Southeast. In the first incident, a man and a woman were found shot and injured, requiring immediate medical attention. Meanwhile, in Southeast Washington, two men were discovered with gunshot wounds, and another man and a teenage girl arrived at nearby hospitals with related injuries. Thankfully, all victims are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening wounds.
Monday Morning Tragedy on Underwood Street
The spate of violence culminated in tragedy on Monday morning in the 800 block of Underwood Street in Northwest Washington. Police rushed to the scene following reports of a shooting at 12:11 a.m. Sadly, one person had already been shot and later succumbed to their injuries. Authorities are now on the hunt for two suspects, described as wearing masks and driving a dark-colored Toyota.
Further Incidents Across the District
In addition to the aforementioned incidents, a shooting was reported in the 700 block of 24th Street in Northeast Washington, where a man and a woman were injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Thankfully, both individuals are currently in stable condition. Furthermore, a separate shooting investigation is ongoing at the intersection of Gainesville & Alabama Avenue in Southeast Washington.
