Efforts to Rescue Robbie
Cherokee Fire, EMS, and the Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the distress call at approximately 2:26 p.m. According to reports from the Department of Natural Resources, Robbie fell off his tube and was not wearing a life jacket. As he struggled in the water, he immediately experienced leg pain, prompting several individuals to jump in and try to assist him.
Despite their best efforts, the group was unable to keep Robbie afloat as he began pulling them under. Officials made the difficult decision to leave him in the water as they called for additional support and resources.

In a race against time, officials deployed side scan SONAR technology in an attempt to locate Robbie underwater. After hours of searching, the Cherokee Fire and EMS dive team successfully recovered Robbie’s body at a depth of 16 feet just before 5 p.m. His body was then handed over to the coroner for further examination.
