Tragic High-Speed Chase Leaves One Dead and Several Injured in Graham
A devastating incident unfolded in downtown Graham on Saturday, June 8, resulting in the loss of one life and multiple injuries following a high-speed chase. The Graham Police Department received reports of a reckless driver near Walmart, later identified as Juan Carlos Lemus Aguilera. An officer attempted to stop Aguilera, who refused to yield and instead accelerated northbound on Elm Street.

Deadly Crash and Injuries
The chase came to a tragic end at the intersection of Elm and South Streets, where Aguilera lost control of his vehicle, collided with another vehicle, and crashed into a residence. The driver of the other vehicle escaped unharmed, but the impact caused injuries to six occupants of the home. Tragically, Aguilera was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured individuals were treated and transported to Graham Regional Medical Center.
Among the injured were Kaitlynn Everett, 24, and her 1-year-old son, Kennady Everett, 22, Haydn Jarvis, 23, Chastidie Mitchell, 45, and Daniel Skinner, 39. Their injuries ranged from fractures to lacerations, but thankfully, City Manager Eric Garretty confirmed that none were life-threatening. One individual required airlifting to Harris Methodist Hospital due to trauma to the head and face.
