The incident occurred when an 18-year-old man was found shot multiple times on Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford. The victim, identified as Joshua McClelland, tragically lost his life due to the gunshot wounds.

Ramon Smith Extradited

Ramon Smith, now 35 years old, was extradited back to Connecticut from Warren, Maine. He was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant charging him with murder and criminal possession of a firearm in connection with the death of Joshua McClelland. Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department confirmed the arrest and extradition of Smith.

The Tragic Incident

On March 25, 2007, patrol officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the area of 250 Blue Hills Ave. around 6:30 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered McClelland with multiple gunshot wounds. The young man was rushed to Saint Francis Hospital but, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries. The crime scene was secured, and the investigation was taken over by the Hartford Police Major Crimes and Crime Scene Divisions.

Extensive Investigation

After an extensive investigation by the Hartford Police Major Crimes Division, in collaboration with the Connecticut Division of Justice Cold Case Unit, probable cause was established. An arrest warrant was obtained, charging Ramon Smith with murder and criminal possession of a firearm. Smith was subsequently taken into custody and remains behind bars on a $1 million bond.
