In a recent court ruling, a Nolanville man was sentenced to a prison term after throwing a knife at a Killeen Police Department officer during an incident in 2022. Mouwandu Lavonte Hudson Jr. had been indicted on a first-degree felony charge of aggravated assault against a public servant on Nov. 2, 2022. However, in the 264th Judicial District Court, Hudson pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault of a public servant, which is a third-degree felony. Judge Paul LePak found the 28-year-old Hudson guilty and sentenced him to two years in prison, according to Bell County court records.

**The incident**

The events leading to Hudson’s sentencing began on Aug. 3, 2022, when Killeen police were dispatched to the 4800 block of Trimmier Road after a report of a person with a knife. According to an arrest affidavit, the caller stated that the person had thrown a knife at him and provided a description of the suspect who had left the scene on foot.

Two officers on patrol in the area spotted a man matching the description walking near Lions Club Park. They attempted to detain the man, later identified as Hudson. Despite orders to stop, Hudson continued to walk away. The officers noticed that Hudson had a box cutter knife in his hand and instructed him to put it down. Ignoring their commands, Hudson forcefully threw the knife at one of the officers while yelling an expletive. Fortunately, the officer managed to avoid being struck and deployed his Taser on Hudson, causing him to fall to the ground. Hudson attempted to get back up, prompting the officers to deploy their Tasers again to detain him.

Hudson was booked into the county jail on Aug. 5, 2022, and had been held without bond. His guilty plea to the assault charge led to the two-year prison sentence handed down by Judge LePak. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and the consequences of violent actions.

**Other court rulings**

In another case decided in Bell County’s courts, a 23-year-old man was sentenced to prison for a sex crime he committed as a juvenile. Jordan Wesley Glidden of Harker Heights pleaded guilty to indecency with a child by contact and received a five-year prison term. The case, involving incidents that occurred in 2016 when Glidden was 15 years old, was transferred from juvenile to adult criminal court due to the seriousness of the offenses.

Additionally, a 44-year-old woman, Amanda Elizabeth Gibson of Killeen, was sentenced to eight years of deferred adjudication probation for breaking into a man’s home and stealing laundry detergent and his car. As part of her probation, Gibson will have to serve 40 days in the Bell County Jail through the work release program and complete 500 hours of community service.

The recent court rulings highlight the diverse range of cases and outcomes in the justice system, serving as a reminder of the importance of upholding the law and ensuring accountability for criminal actions..
