Charges Filed Against Accomplice in Joliet Mass Shooting

In a shocking turn of events, Jon W. Hansen, 24, has been charged with three counts of first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery with a firearm in connection with a mass shooting that took place in Joliet, Illinois earlier this year. The shooting spree, which resulted in the deaths of eight people, including seven members of the shooter’s own family, rocked the quiet suburb of Chicago.

The Tragic Events Unfold

The incident began on January 21, when authorities responded to a shooting at the Pheasant Run Apartments in Joliet Township. Upon arrival, they discovered 28-year-old Toyosi Bakare suffering from a gunshot wound to the eye. Despite efforts to save him, Bakare succumbed to his injuries.

Shortly after, another shooting was reported in the City of Joliet involving a suspect vehicle matching the description of the one at the previous scene. Surveillance footage later confirmed that the same individual was responsible for both incidents.

A Gruesome Discovery

As the investigation unfolded, deputies traced the suspect vehicle to Romeo Nance, who was later identified as the shooter. Upon further inspection of Nance’s family residence, authorities made a chilling discovery. Inside the home, they found two deceased individuals. In a neighbouring property belonging to the Nance family, five more bodies were discovered, all victims of the shooting rampage.

A Cross-State Manhunt

Following the trail of destruction, authorities launched a manhunt for Nance, who was later located driving along I-35 in the San Antonio, Texas area. In a dramatic showdown at a gas station in Natalia, Texas, Nance took his own life with the same gun used in the shootings. The tragic events left a community reeling and searching for answers.

The Alleged Accomplice’s Admission

In the aftermath of the mass shooting, Jon W. Hansen was arrested and questioned by authorities. During the interview, Hansen reportedly confessed to being with Nance during some of the shootings. He admitted to being present when Nance fatally shot Bakare and injured another individual in a separate incident. Hansen also disclosed that he disposed of the weapon used in one of the shootings in a nearby river.

Following the discovery of the discarded weapon, Hansen was taken into custody and charged with multiple offenses related to the shooting spree. He is currently being held without bond at the Will County Adult Detention Center as the legal process unfolds.
