A driver, identified as Njoroge, was arrested after a viral video showed him assaulting a traffic police officer in a road rage incident along Kamiti Road in Nairobi. The incident, which occurred on a Sunday morning, attracted outrage from the public and led to a manhunt for the assailant.

Details of the Incident

The driver was with another occupant in a salon car when they made a wrong U-turn at Mirema junction. As police approached the scene, the driver veered off the road and got stuck in a ditch. Corporal Jacob Ogendo arrived at the scene and helped remove the car from the ditch. He then ordered the driver to head to Kasarani police station, but things took a violent turn.

Assault on the Police Officer

As the driver reached the opposite of a supermarket, he pulled out a sword from under his seat, prompting Corporal Ogendo to jump out of the car for his safety. The driver followed him outside and started to physically assault him, punching and kicking him. The officer sustained injuries, including a worsened old injury on his leg, during the attack.

Escape of the Assailant

The assailant managed to escape the scene with the police communication gadget that was in the car. An accomplice was arrested at the scene, but the main suspect fled. The injured police officer was taken to a local private hospital and later transferred to Mama Lucy Hospital for further treatment.

Arrest of the Suspect

After hours of searching, Njoroge was apprehended in a house in Kayole, Nairobi. Police had received information that he was planning to move to the Jacaranda estate. He will be charged with several offences, including attempted murder, for his violent actions towards the police officer.
