A Demand for Fair Justice

The Awutu Senya East Constituency Communication Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Delali Sewokpor, is urging the police to conduct a thorough investigation into recent events. He is concerned about the possibility of selective justice and is calling for a fair and unbiased approach to the situation.

Unequal Treatment

Sewokpor expressed confusion over the differential treatment of individuals involved in a recent altercation. He highlighted the arrest of Daniel Techie Mensah, the NDC constituency organiser, in contrast to the apparent freedom of the NPP organiser present during the incident. This disparity in treatment has raised questions about the fairness of the police’s actions.

Violence Erupts

The incident in question resulted in the stabbing of Ato Koomson, the son of NPP MP Mavis Hawa Koomson, during a scuffle. Koomson is currently receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital for a stab wound to his chest. The escalation of violence has heightened tensions between the two political parties in the region.

Allegations of Partisanship

Sewokpor alleged that Ato Koomson had previously led attacks on NDC members in the run-up to the 2020 elections. Despite these accusations, Koomson has not faced any repercussions for his actions. This perceived bias in the treatment of individuals based on their political affiliations has raised concerns about the even-handedness of the law enforcement process.

Calling for Accountability

In light of these events, Sewokpor emphasised the importance of holding all individuals accountable for their actions, regardless of their political allegiances. He stressed the need for the police to uphold the principles of justice and fairness in their handling of the situation to prevent further escalation of tensions between the NDC and NPP supporters.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, three individuals were arrested in Ofaakor near Kasoa for allegedly possessing firearms without lawful authority. The suspects, identified as Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor, Mustapha Mohammed, and Abdul Aziz Musah, were taken into custody by the police. Notably, Phyllis Naa Koryoo Okunnor is the National Democratic Congress’ Parliamentary Candidate for the Awutu Senya East Constituency.

Seeking Clarity and Transparency

As the situation unfolds, there is a growing demand for transparency and accountability in the handling of these cases. The public is looking to the police to provide clarity on their investigative processes and ensure that justice is served without bias or favouritism. The need for a fair and impartial approach to law enforcement has become paramount in restoring trust and confidence in the system..
