Nick Kapinos, a seasoned law enforcement officer with 10 years of experience, discharged his department-issued handgun during the incident. Luke Kittock, who has nine years of experience in law enforcement, fired his department rifle. Both officers have been placed on critical incident leave pending further investigation.

While Mohamed tragically lost his life due to multiple gunshot wounds, Kittock sustained injuries during the exchange but has since been treated and released from the hospital. A Minneapolis firefighter also received treatment for injuries and was subsequently discharged.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of another individual who lost his life in the apartment building as 32-year-old Osman Said Jimale. Additionally, a bystander who was shot during the incident remains hospitalized in critical but stable condition, as reported by the BCA.

BCA personnel recovered crucial evidence at the scene, including a handgun with an extended magazine and multiple cartridge casings. Furthermore, BCA agents are meticulously reviewing all available body-worn and squad car camera footage related to the tragic event.
