A tragic incident occurred last weekend south of Smiths Falls, where a local paramedic lost his life in a fatal motorcycle collision. The Lanark County Paramedic Service (LCPS) identified the victim as 37-year-old David Nitschmann, who had been with the service since 2008.

David Nitschmann was a well-respected paramedic known for his contagious smile and unwavering dedication to his patients. He had a long-standing career with the LCPS, where he was admired for his caring nature and commitment to his work. His colleagues fondly remembered him as a great paramedic and a dear friend.

The collision took place on County Road 29 between Kitley Line 6 and Kinch Street, just outside the village of Toledo. The Ontario Provincial Police in Leeds County reported that a man and his motorcycle were found in the western ditch along the road early in the morning on May 26. The rider, believed to be travelling south at the time, was pronounced dead at the scene.

**A Life Well-Lived**

Born in 1987, David Nitschmann was a compassionate individual who found his calling in helping others as a paramedic. His obituary described him as someone who loved people, his family, his dogs, scuba diving, and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He was known for living life to the fullest and sharing his passions with those around him.

**Remembering David Nitschmann**

David was the beloved son of Frank and Jane Nitschmann, and a cherished brother to Paul, Adam, Isaac, Elizabeth, Veronica, and Rebekah. He also held a special place in the hearts of his eight nieces and nephews. His family, friends, co-workers, patients, and community members will deeply miss him.

**Honoring His Memory**

A service in memory of David Nitschmann will be held at Blair and Son Funeral Home in Perth on June 3 from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Additionally, a memorial mass will take place at St. John’s Catholic Church on June 4 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, his family has requested contributions to the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital Foundation – Emergency Services or to Pivotal Help.
