Background of the Case
In a shocking turn of events, three individuals have pleaded guilty to the brutal hanging and stabbing death of a Pit Bull Terrier named Deron. The innocent dog had been adopted from Indianapolis Animal Care Services in 2022, only to meet a tragic end at the hands of his abusers.

The Adoption and Betrayal of Deron
Deron’s journey began when he was brought to IACS as an owner surrender on June 29, 2022. He found hope when 19-year-old Zech Thomsen decided to adopt him on July 28, 2022. Little did Deron know that this would lead to his untimely demise.
The Horrific Discovery
On August 6, 2022, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department received reports of a dog being choked and bleeding in the 700 block of Bosart Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they were met with a chilling sight.
A Despicable Act of Violence
Deron was found dead in a trash bag, with a leash tightly wrapped around his neck and several lacerations on his body. Witnesses reported seeing Thomsen holding a knife and choking the helpless dog, ultimately leading to his tragic death.
Legal Consequences
Thomsen, along with his accomplices Sierra Makin and Clifford Massey, faced charges for their heinous actions. Thomsen was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for the killing of Deron, in addition to 27 years for an unrelated murder charge.

Makin received a three-year prison sentence with one year suspended, while Massey awaits a plea hearing on June 20. A fourth individual, Denita Lynn Hughes, was also charged in connection to the case and sentenced to probation and a fine.
