**Nursing Students Hospitalized After Food Poisoning Incident in Salem**

In a concerning turn of events, 82 nursing students from SPC Institute of Nursing Education and Research in Kuppanur, Salem district, Tamil Nadu, were rushed to the hospital after falling ill due to food poisoning. The students had consumed food at their private college hostel, which led to their hospitalization.

It all started on a Sunday when 20 students first reported feeling unwell after eating the food provided at the hostel. They were immediately taken to a hospital run by the college administration for treatment. After a few hours of observation, they were sent back to the hostel.

The situation took a more serious turn the following day when Health Department officials visited the college to assess the students’ condition. Upon examination, it was decided that 82 students needed further medical attention and were promptly transferred to Salem Govt hospital. The students were mainly suffering from dehydration, with some also experiencing stomachaches, vomiting, and diarrhea. Thankfully, all of them are now in stable condition.

As a precautionary measure, the Food Safety department collected samples of food and water from the hostel kitchen for testing. Both the Food Safety Department and Health Department have issued notices to the college, seeking an explanation for the incident. In response to the situation, the hostel canteen has been temporarily shut down for further investigation.

**Tragic Death and Numerous Hospitalizations in Kerala Due to Food Poisoning**

In a separate incident in Thrissur district, Kerala, a woman tragically lost her life after consuming biryani from a local restaurant in the Perinjanam region. The incident resulted in around 178 people being hospitalized for symptoms of food poisoning, such as diarrhea, vomiting, and stomachaches.

The deceased woman, identified as Uzaiba (56) from Kutilakkadav, was admitted to Thrissur Medical College after experiencing severe stomach pain and vomiting. Along with two other relatives, she received medical treatment at the hospital but, unfortunately, could not survive.

Following the outbreak of food poisoning, the restaurant responsible for serving the contaminated biryani has been shut down. The 178 individuals affected by the tainted food were quickly admitted to hospitals for treatment and observation. The severity of the situation highlights the importance of food safety measures and the need for vigilant oversight in food establishments to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

These two incidents serve as stark reminders of the potential risks associated with food consumption and the crucial role of regulatory bodies in ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
