Jeremy Lockhart, aged 53, was arrested by police on Monday in Lauderhill after allegedly firing his gun in a supermarket parking lot. Lockhart has been charged with possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and felony probation violation. The incident took place at a Fresco y Mas supermarket on North State Road 7 in Lauderhill. When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found that a 9-year-old boy named Jeffrey Jackson had been shot in the foot. Jackson, who had been accompanied by his family to the supermarket, was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. It was later confirmed that the young boy and his family had no association with the altercation that led to the shooting.

Witnesses at the scene reported that a man who fired his weapon quickly fled in his vehicle, while a woman he had been arguing with also left in her car. The woman driving the Chevrolet SUV returned to the scene and cooperated with authorities. Jeffrey Jackson’s mother, Taraneisha Jackson, expressed her shock and distress at the situation, stating, “My son is an innocent bystander, you know, we just going in to go to the grocery store and that was it.” She described how her world had been turned upside down by the events that unfolded. Fortunately, Jackson did not require surgery as the bullet had passed through his foot. Images captured by 7News cameras showed Jackson being released from the hospital in a wheelchair.

As the investigation into the shooting continues, the suspect, Jeremy Lockhart, remains in custody at the Broward County Main Jail.
