The Fateful Evening
According to police reports, the young couple was driving east along the Western Main Road in Chaguaramas in a silver-grey Hyundai Elantra when the accident occurred. As they approached O2 Park, the driver attempted to overtake a line of traffic but lost control of the vehicle. The car swerved off the road, crashed into rocks, flipped, and landed in Welcome Bay, a picturesque spot popular among fishing enthusiasts and yacht owners.
Desperate Rescue Efforts
Passers-by sprang into action, trying to free Thomas and Matamoro from the wreckage. Videos circulating on social media captured the harrowing moments as bystanders attempted to pull the car out of the water. Despite their valiant efforts, they were unable to save the young couple.
Tragic Outcome
Firefighters from the Wrightson Road Fire Headquarters arrived at the scene and retrieved the wrecked vehicle from the bay. As the emergency responders extracted Thomas and Matamoro from the car, bystanders tried to resuscitate Thomas with CPR, but sadly, it was too late. The authorities also conducted a search for a child, as a child seat was found in the car, but no additional body was recovered, leading them to believe that the child was not present during the accident.
