Tragic Road Accident Claims One Life and Injures Several on National Highway 6
A devastating road accident on National Highway 6 in Ri Bhoi early Sunday morning has left a community in shock. The collision involved a Bolero Pickup and a Maruti Swift Dzire, resulting in one fatality and multiple injuries.

Details of the Incident
The tragic incident unfolded around 10:30 AM when the Bolero Pickup, driven by Stanphan Ryntathiang, lost control near Umran on NH-06. The vehicle, speeding towards Nongpoh, veered across the median and collided with the Swift Dzire, which was travelling from Guwahati. The impact of the collision was severe, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and injuries to all occupants.
Victims of the Accident
The injured from the Swift Dzire have been identified as Mr. Nikhil Harijan Balmiki (3), Mahesh Balmiki (34), Minoti Das (46), and Deepa Das Balmiki (28), all from Azara, Guwahati, Assam. Tragically, the driver of the Bolero Pickup, Stanphan Ryntathiang, was declared dead on arrival at the Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
Police Response and Investigation
Upon receiving the alert, law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene in Umran. By the time the police reached the location, passersby had already transported the injured to a nearby health center. The police conducted an inquest in the presence of Ryntathiang’s family, and despite being informed about the benefits of a postmortem examination, the family requested an exemption, which was granted by the magistrate.
Further Investigation and Custody of Vehicles
Both vehicles involved in the collision have been towed to the Umsning Police Station for further investigation and safe custody. The authorities are working diligently to gather all necessary evidence to understand the circumstances that led to this tragic event.
