The turbulence reportedly struck during the food and drinks service, causing chaos and panic among those on board.

Eye-Witness Accounts of the Turbulence

One passenger recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “The plane just seemed to go… stop–which it didn’t but then dropped, quite a severe drop.” Fortunately, the captain was able to regain control of the aircraft quickly. However, some passengers who were not wearing seatbelts were thrown out of their seats, resulting in injuries.

Another passenger, Conor, shared his account of the turbulence, mentioning how a flight attendant was lifted into the air and then came crashing back down. His companion, Emma, described the sudden drop of the plane and the panic that ensued among the passengers.

Cathal, another passenger on the flight, mentioned that he was having dinner when the turbulence struck. He recalled the chaotic scene afterwards, with food scattered all over the plane, including on the ceiling.

Response from Qatar Airways

In a statement released by Qatar Airways, the airline confirmed that the flight had landed safely at Dublin Airport and that a small number of passengers and crew members had sustained minor injuries. The safety and security of their passengers and crew are stated to be their top priority, with an internal investigation into the incident underway.

Despite the turbulence, flight operations at Dublin Airport remained unaffected. The return flight to Doha was delayed but still scheduled to depart as planned.

Recent Incidents of Turbulence

This incident comes in the wake of a recent tragedy on a Singapore Airlines flight where a passenger lost his life due to extreme turbulence. Twenty-two passengers suffered spine and spinal cord injuries, six others sustained skull and brain injuries, and thirteen individuals suffered bone, muscle, or other injuries.

As air travel continues to face challenges posed by unexpected turbulence, airlines are reminded of the importance of passenger safety and the need for strict adherence to safety protocols.
