“Pune Porsche Crash: Essay Competition Held At Accident Site Raises Questions”

The case drew massive flak after the teenager was granted bail by a court on bizarre conditions, including instructions to write a 300-word essay.

Pune: An open essay-writing competition took place in Pune as a form of protest against the controversial bail granted to the 17-year-old involved in the Porsche car crash that occurred on May 19. Approximately 100 individuals participated in the contest, with a cash prize of Rs 11,111 awarded to the best essay. The event was held at the exact location where the tragic accident unfolded in Kalyani Nagar.

The Essay Competition

The competition was initiated by Changdeo Gite, a dedicated social worker, to shed light on what many perceive as ‘preferential treatment’ given to the minor, who happens to be the son of a prominent builder. The participants, ranging from 30 to 40 years old, included both men and women, with only a few under the age of 18. Civil service aspirants and students also partook in the event.

Participants were given a choice of 10 topics to write about, such as ‘What would I have done if my father was a builder’, ‘The law is the same for all’, and ‘Today’s youth and their relation to addiction’ among others.

Sharing her motivation for joining the competition, Pratibha Telange, a participant, expressed her concerns as a new mother of 10-month-old twins. She emphasized the importance of collective efforts in enhancing road safety. “I couldn’t attend vigils or protests due to my young children, but I felt compelled to contribute through this essay,” she remarked.

Developments in the Porsche Crash Case

In a recent development related to the Porsche crash case, authorities arrested two doctors from Sassoon General Hospital in Pune on charges of manipulating blood samples. Dr. Ajay Taware and Shrihari Harnor, including the head of the hospital’s forensic department, were among those taken into custody.

The minor involved in the tragic accident, who was reportedly driving at a speed of 200 km per hour under the influence of alcohol, has been placed in an observation home until June 5. The Juvenile Justice Board is considering a police plea to try him as an adult. Notably, the teen’s father, a well-known realtor, has been arrested under the Juvenile Justice Act. Additionally, the Pune Police Crime Branch unit apprehended the minor’s grandfather on Saturday.

These recent developments have sparked outrage among the public, highlighting concerns regarding accountability and justice in cases involving influential individuals.
