Third Suspect Arrested in Blood Sample Manipulation Case

In a shocking development, the Pune Police have apprehended a third individual in connection with the alleged manipulation of the blood sample of the teenager accused of causing a fatal accident in Pune city. The latest suspect, identified as Atul Ghatkamble, is an employee of Sassoon Hospital. This arrest comes after the earlier detention of Dr Ajay Tawade and Dr Hari Harnor, both from Pune’s Sassoon General Hospital, for their alleged roles in switching the blood sample of the accused with that of another individual.

According to Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, the blood samples of the 17-year-old boy were replaced at the behest of a doctor from Sassoon General Hospital. The juvenile’s father reportedly contacted the doctor and offered inducements to carry out the switch, resulting in a report from the hospital showing no presence of alcohol in the blood sample.

Kumar revealed that Dr Ajay Taware, head of the Forensic Medicine department at Sassoon General Hospital, and Dr Shrihari Halnor, the chief medical officer at the hospital, were involved in the scheme. Investigations have shown that the blood samples were indeed tampered with, as a subsequent DNA test conducted at another hospital did not match the original report from Sassoon Hospital.

The police commissioner mentioned that the doctors were unaware that a second sample of the accused’s blood had been collected for DNA testing. CCTV footage from Sassoon Hospital has been retrieved as part of the ongoing probe to determine whose blood samples were used to replace those of the juvenile.

Custody Granted for Father in Kidnapping Case

In a separate development, the Pune court has granted permission for the police to take custody of the teen’s father, Vishal Agarwal, who is currently incarcerated at Yerwada Central Jail. Agarwal faces charges related to the kidnapping and wrongful confinement of his driver.
