Tragic Loss of Lives in Telangana due to Heavy Rains and Thunderstorms
As heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms lashed several parts of Telangana on May 26, Sunday, at least 13 people lost their lives in separate incidents. The downpour, combined with strong gales, wreaked havoc in several districts, including the state capital Hyderabad.
Impact of Severe Cyclonic Storm Remal
The heavy rains and thunderstorms were under the influence of severe cyclonic storm Remal in the Bay of Bengal. This severe weather system led to the unfortunate loss of lives, uprooted trees, damaged electricity and communication towers, and disrupted transport and power supply across the region.
Devastation in Nagarkurnool District
Nagarkurnool district bore the brunt of the severe weather conditions, with seven deaths reported in the area. Four deaths occurred in various parts of Hyderabad, while two lives were lost in Medak district. The strong gales left a trail of destruction in Nagarkurnool, Medak, Ranga Reddy, Medchal Malkajgiri, and Nalgonda districts.
Tragic Incident at Tandoor Village
Four people, including a father and daughter, lost their lives after an under-construction poultry shed collapsed at Tandoor village in Nagarkurnool district. The victims were identified as Mallesh (38), his daughter Anusha (12), and construction workers Chennamma (38) and Ramudu (36). The incident also left four others injured, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Loss of Lives in Hyderabad
In Shamirpet on the outskirts of Hyderabad, two individuals tragically lost their lives when an uprooted tree fell on them while they were riding a motorcycle. The deceased were identified as Dhananjay (44) and Nagireddy Rami Reddy (56). Additionally, in the Hafeezpet area of Hyderabad, Mohammed Rasheed (45) and Mohammed Samad (3) lost their lives when bricks from a neighboring house’s roof fell on them due to the strong gales.
Widespread Impact Across Multiple Districts
The impact of the heavy rains and gales extended to districts such as Mahabubnagar, Jogulamba-Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Yadadri-Bhongir, Sangareddy, and Vikarabad. Power supply was disrupted in many areas as transmission and distribution lines were snapped, tree branches fell on power cables, poles were damaged, and hoardings, cell towers, and debris fell on roads and houses in some locations.
