The drama unfolded at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Cedar Street around 6:57 p.m., when a concerned citizen dialed 911 to report a robbery in progress. According to police reports, a male victim was viciously punched in the face, rendering him unconscious. The assailant then proceeded to steal the victim’s backpack before fleeing the scene.

After a thorough search led by Riverhead K9-2, the suspect was apprehended in the vicinity of Court Street and Griffing Ave. The alleged perpetrator was identified as Juan Francisco Urizar Zamora, a 19-year-old resident of Mastic Beach. Zamora was promptly charged with Robbery in the Second Degree, a class C felony, and detained for arraignment.
