Air India Passenger Faces Charges for Smoking in Plane’s Toilet

An Air India flight en route from Jaipur to Mumbai was disrupted by a passenger who endangered the lives of over 200 passengers by smoking a cigarette in the plane’s toilet. The incident occurred while the flight was cruising at an altitude of approximately 30,000 feet, causing panic among both passengers and crew members.

Legal Action Taken Against the Accused Passenger

Upon landing at Mumbai airport, airport security detained the accused, identified as Arjun Thalore. The crew members reported the incident to the police, leading to the arrest of Arjun. This marks the second such incident this month, with strict action being taken against individuals who violate airline safety protocols.

Violation of Aviation Rules

Crew members on the Air India flight reported to the police that Arjun began smoking in the toilet while the plane was in flight. Despite clear instructions prohibiting such behavior, Arjun violated the rules and endangered the safety of everyone on board. The crew issued a warning before lodging a formal complaint with airport authorities upon landing.

Immediate Detainment and Legal Consequences

Airport security acted swiftly in detaining Arjun and handing him over to the police. Sahar Police Station officers arrived at the scene, registered a complaint, and took the accused into custody. Arjun now faces charges under Section 336 of the Indian Penal Code for endangering the lives of others and Section 25 of the Aircraft Rules.

Previous Incidents of Smoking Onboard Flights

This incident is not the first of its kind this month. On May 8, a 51-year-old passenger was caught smoking in the toilet of a Vistara flight from Muscat to Mumbai. The pilot detected the smoke through the plane’s smoke detector, prompting the crew to take immediate action and report the violation to airport authorities.
