Company Staff in Bus Accident Escape Unharmed
A company-operated bus transporting employees after their night shift duties met with a tragic accident at the Verna IDC late Saturday night. The bus crashed into temporary hutments, resulting in the death of four workers and injuries to four others, including the driver. Miraculously, the company staff in the bus managed to escape unharmed.

Night Shift Workers Rush to Offer Help
Night shift workers from nearby firms rushed to the scene to assist after hearing the loud crash. The injured workers were quickly shifted to the South Goa District Hospital at Margao for treatment. Unfortunately, despite the efforts of the rescuers, four of the workers succumbed to their injuries at the scene of the accident.
Alcohol Test Conducted on Driver
The driver of the bus, identified as Bharat Govekar from Cortalim, was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police conducted an alcohol test on the driver to confirm their suspicions and are awaiting the test results. The driver, along with the contractor and supervisor involved in the construction work, are under investigation for their roles in the tragic incident.

One labourer had a lucky escape as he had stepped out of the hut moments before the bus crashed into it. He had left the hut to make a phone call and witnessed the devastating accident from a distance. Shocked and shaken, he recounted how he narrowly avoided being caught in the tragic incident that claimed the lives of his co-workers.
Government Action Against Contractors
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant expressed deep sadness over the incident and vowed to take strict action against those responsible. He announced that the contractors and sub-contractors involved in constructing the hutments dangerously close to the road would be blacklisted. The government is taking steps to ensure that such accidents are prevented in the future by holding all parties involved accountable for their negligence.
