Bengaluru Murder Case Solved After 11 Years

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has successfully cracked an 11-year-old murder case in Bengaluru, shedding light on the tragic death of Vijaya Pai. Initially, her husband, Balakrishna Pai, was arrested in connection with her murder, but was later released due to lack of evidence. It has now been revealed that Vijaya was not only murdered but also subjected to a horrific gang rape before her death. The CID has arrested and charged three men, including one of Balakrishna’s colleagues, for the heinous crimes of murder and gang rape.

The Tragic Events Unfolded

The case dates back to February 2013, when Balakrishna Pai, an employee at Canara Bank’s Mahalakshmi Layout branch, reported his wife, Vijaya Pai, missing. She failed to return home from her job in Electronics City, prompting a police investigation. A few days later, a woman’s body was discovered by Chikkajala police, and Balakrishna identified it as his wife, Vijaya.

A Wrongful Arrest and Legal Battle

Following the discovery of Vijaya’s body, Balakrishna Pai was arrested on suspicion of murdering his wife. Despite being held in judicial custody for 90 days, no charges were filed against him due to insufficient evidence. Frustrated by the lack of progress in the case, Balakrishna appealed to the High Court for a fresh investigation, which ultimately led to the CID taking over the case. After 11 years of uncertainty and legal battles, justice is finally being served.

A Husband’s Ordeal

In an emotional statement to The Times of India, Balakrishna Pai expressed his anguish over the wrongful accusations and imprisonment he faced. He shared, “On one hand, I had lost my wife in a brutal way. On the other, I was imprisoned for a crime I did not commit. I lost faith in the system, especially the police. After my release, I vowed to seek justice and ensure that no one else suffers as I did.”

Breakthrough in the Case

Thanks to a reexamination of the evidence, including Call Detail Records (CDR) from the day Vijaya went missing, the CID made a significant breakthrough in the investigation. The agency arrested three individuals linked to the crime: former Canara Bank manager Narasimha Murthy, and his associates Deepak C and Hariprasad, all residents of Sahakarnagar. It was revealed that the accused had gang-raped Vijaya before her murder and disposed of her body in Chikkajala.
