In a startling turn of events, a personal assistant to a tech entrepreneur has confessed to beheading his employer in what his defence attorney describes as a “crime of passion.” The accused, Tyrese Haspil, reportedly murdered his boss, Fahim Saleh, after stealing a staggering amount of $400,000 to conceal his theft from his girlfriend and avoid a potential breakup.

The New York Post revealed the gruesome discovery of Saleh’s decapitated and dismembered body by his cousin in the entrepreneur’s luxurious Manhattan apartment. Initially, Haspil was detained for owing Saleh a significant sum of money. However, recent revelations suggest that Haspil had embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from Saleh. Fearful that his girlfriend, Marine Chaveuz, would uncover his theft and leave him, Haspil’s defence team argued that he resorted to murder to maintain secrecy.

At the Manhattan Supreme Court, defence lawyer Sam Roberts put forth the argument that Haspel was driven by “extreme emotional disturbance” when he committed the heinous act. Prosecutors claim that Haspil faced a harrowing decision between “suicide or homicide” after embezzling nearly $400,000 and ultimately chose the latter.

Saleh, a man of Bangladeshi descent, had confronted Haspil in January 2020 regarding $90,000 missing from a corporate account, which was later traced back to Haspil. Despite this, Saleh gave Haspil the opportunity to repay the stolen funds through a payment plan instead of pressing charges. However, Haspil continued his fraudulent activities, diverting money from Saleh’s company via a PayPal account. Upon being caught once again, Haspil feared prosecution and meticulously planned the murder, according to the prosecution’s narrative.

Prosecutors provided a detailed account of the murder, stating that Haspil, wearing a mask and armed with a taser, incapacitated Saleh before fatally stabbing him. The following day, he dismembered Saleh’s body, including severing the head. Despite his efforts to clean the crime scene, Haspil overlooked an “anti-felon disk” identification tag, which was linked to a taser he had ordered to his Brooklyn address a month prior to the murder.

Saleh’s cousin stumbled upon the horrific scene, discovering his torso and construction bags in the living room after not hearing from him for several days. In a bizarre twist, despite allegedly orchestrating the murder to prevent a breakup, Haspil was seen with an unidentified woman shortly after the crime.

Haspil has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder charges. If convicted, he could face a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years to life imprisonment. Sam Roberts, representing Haspil, highlighted his client’s troubled past, marked by a childhood of abuse at the hands of his schizophrenic mother, which he believes contributed to the tragic incident.
