Jacqueline Long, who worked at the post office for 40 years, described Benjamin as a wonderful person and expressed her deep sorrow at the loss.

Amy Magliarditi, a letter carrier who worked with Benjamin for 30 years, praised him as the best and credited him with making their team better. Despite being hearing-impaired, Benjamin had a lively and humorous personality, often engaging in playful banter with his colleagues. His jovial nature and pranks made him a beloved figure at the post office.

The man involved in the gunfire exchange with police was identified as Bernard Smith, 28, with a history of criminal activities dating back to 2012. Devin Bradley, 24, an employee of the Fort Pierce Police Department, also tragically lost his life in the incident. The community remains in shock over the series of events that unfolded, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries.
