An ongoing investigation has led to the arrest of two individuals in connection with a series of mail thefts. Los Angeles residents Sixto Melendez, 28, and Mark Huguez, 48, were apprehended and booked into the John J. Benoit Detention Center on Thursday.
Vehicle Linked to Mail Carrier Burglaries
Officers from the Riverside Sheriff’s Palm Desert Station, part of the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team (SET), made a significant discovery during a routine traffic stop on Thursday at 2:10 p.m. The vehicle in question was believed to have been used in aiding mail carrier burglaries in Alhambra, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Mail Theft Uncovered
Upon inspecting the vehicle, deputies uncovered a cache of stolen mail belonging to 16 individuals across multiple counties. The haul also included stolen checks, credit cards, and burglary tools. Melendez and Huguez were swiftly identified as suspects and taken into custody. They are anticipated to face charges related to conspiracy and theft during their initial court appearance at the Larson Justice Center in Indio next Tuesday.
Collaboration with Postal Inspection Service
