A 31-year-old man from Edmonton, Alberta, has been charged in connection with the investigation into the death of Kathleen Desmoulin, a 41-year-old woman from Long Lake 58 First Nation.

Response to Report of Deceased Person

On November 18, 2023, the Greenstone OPP Detachment responded to a report of a deceased person near Highway 11 in Long Lake 58 First Nation. The deceased was later identified as Kathleen Desmoulin, a member of the local community.

Arrest Warrant Issued

Following the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Gurmeet Singh Brar of Edmonton, Alberta. Brar was charged with failure to comply with traffic regulations in an accident resulting in death under Section 320.16 (3) of the Penal Code.

With the assistance of the Canadian Border Services Agency and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Brar was arrested and taken into custody in Saskatchewan on May 20. He was subsequently transferred back to Ontario, where he is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay on May 25.
