May and her daughter had recently moved out of their shared house but managed to escape before the tragic events unfolded.

Following the initial shooting, two males were found dead in another home in Brookhaven. Subsequently, a man and a woman were discovered shot to death at a third residence. It was later revealed that the three women killed in the first location were May’s mother, aunt, and sister. Throughout the legal process, Godbolt raised several challenges to his trial.
