Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Five, Including Three Children, in Ludhiana
At least five people, including three children, tragically lost their lives in a devastating accident that occurred in Punjab’s Ludhiana district on Friday morning. The incident took place near the Sirhind Canal in Behlolpur village when a vehicle carrying a group of pilgrims met with a fatal crash.
Details of the Accident
The vehicle involved in the accident was a Mahindra pick-up van, and according to Khanna Police, the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to roll over and get stuck in the trees. Sadly, three children slipped into the canal and drowned, while two women succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at the hospital.
Victims identified
The victims of this heartbreaking incident have been identified as Karamjit Kaur, 55, and Mahinder Kaur, 65. Additionally, divers recovered the bodies of two children from the canal, identified as Gaganjeet Kaur, 12, and another girl who remains unidentified. The search for the body of the third child, Sukhpreet Singh, 7, is still ongoing.
Injured Rushed to Hospital
The injured individuals were promptly rushed to Chamkaur Sahib Civil Hospital in the nearby Ropar district for medical treatment. Reports indicate that a total of 18 people, including the driver, were travelling in the ill-fated vehicle at the time of the accident.
Return from Pilgrimage
The pilgrims, hailing from Nizampur and Danogwal villages of the Payal segment in Ludhiana, were returning from Dera Vadbhag Singh in Una, Himachal Pradesh, after offering their prayers. The group was on their way back home when the tragic accident occurred.
Possible Cause of the Accident
Deputy Superintendent of Police, Samrala, Tarlochan Singh, mentioned that it is suspected the driver may have momentarily dozed off, leading to the loss of control over the vehicle. However, further investigation and the driver’s statement are required to confirm the exact cause of the accident. The driver is currently receiving medical treatment, and an FIR is being registered at Machhiwara police station.
