A Pennsylvania man, Tamir Phillips, 24, of Bensalem, has been sentenced to 30 years in state prison after being found guilty of fatally shooting a 14-year-old boy at a Burlington County gas station in 2021. The incident, which took place at the Phillips 66 gas station on the first block of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, shook the community to its core.

Details of the Tragic Incident
The investigation began on the afternoon of August 21, 2021, when Willingboro police officers responded to a report of a shooting at the gas station. The victim, 14-year-old Jesse Everett, of Willingboro, had been rushed to Virtua Willingboro Hospital before being airlifted to Cooper University Medical Center in Camden, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The Suspect’s Connection to the Victim
Phillips, who was known to frequent Willingboro, was quickly identified as a suspect in the shooting. It was revealed that the day before the incident, the owner of a stolen 2014 Honda Civic, which Phillips often used, had reported the theft to the police. Prior to the shooting, Phillips was seen as a passenger in a separate vehicle, spotting the stolen car at the gas station.
The Fatal Encounter
As the stolen Civic, driven by Everett, pulled into the gas station, Phillips confronted the teenager, ultimately firing a single shot into the vehicle, fatally striking him in the head. Two other individuals were in the car with Everett at the time of the shooting, fortunately escaping physical harm.
Legal Ramifications
Following a jury trial, Phillips was convicted of murder and two weapons-related charges in November. He will serve his 30-year sentence in state prison without the possibility of parole. The tragic loss of Jesse Everett has left a lasting impact on the Willingboro community and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of senseless violence.
