The Tragic Crash
The cargo plane, loaded with fuel destined for the village of Kobuk, crashed just moments after taking off from Fairbanks International Airport on the morning of April 23. The aircraft, a Douglas DC-4, was carrying approximately 3,400 gallons of unleaded fuel and two 100-gallon propane tanks. Sadly, the plane went down in the Tanana River, about 7 miles southwest of the airport, and was engulfed in flames.
