The Pune city police have taken a significant step forward in the investigation of the murder of gangster Sharad Mohol by filing a chargesheet against 18 individuals. The chargesheet, spanning a massive 1,750 pages, was submitted by assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sunil Tambe before a special court in Pune on Wednesday.

The Tragic Murder
Sharad Mohol met a tragic end on his marriage anniversary when he was shot dead by a group of men, including his associate Sahil alias Munna Polekar, in a lane near his residence in Sutardara, Kothrud on January 5 this year. The incident sent shockwaves through the community and sparked an intense investigation by the Pune city police.
The Investigation Unfolds
Following the murder, Mohol’s aide Arun Dhumal lodged a complaint at Kothrud police station, leading to the registration of an FIR under Section 302 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The swift action by the police resulted in the arrest of eight individuals, including Polekar, his uncle Namdev Kangude, and two lawyers, near Shirwal on the Pune-Satara highway.

On January 27, the police invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against 17 accused persons, highlighting the severity of the crime.

Authorities allege that Shelar, along with Marne and other accomplices, orchestrated Mohol’s murder. The accused reportedly procured firearms from Madhya Pradesh and conducted practice sessions in the Mulshi area before carrying out the fatal attack on Mohol.
