International Dialogue on Migration Focuses on Creating Opportunities for Regular Migration
The recent International Dialogue on Migration (IDM) brought together a diverse range of stakeholders to discuss how to create more and better opportunities for people to move in a regular and beneficial way. Over two days, Member States, migrants, the UN system, international organizations, civil society, youth leaders, the private sector, and academia explored innovative policy solutions for regular pathways for migration.

Key Insights from the Dialogue
During the discussions, it became clear that well-managed migration can drive sustainable development globally. IOM Director General Amy Pope emphasized the importance of facilitating safe and regular pathways for migration to enable opportunities for migrants, protect their rights, and contribute to prosperity in both origin and host countries.
Four Avenues of Action
The participants identified four key avenues of action to ensure the success of regular migration pathways. These include multilateral action and effective partnerships at all levels, engagement at the local level to strengthen pathways and enhance social cohesion, amplifying the voices of migrants and diasporas in advocacy and development, and leveraging innovation and technology to provide migrants with better access to resources and skills recognition.
Recognition of the Need for Collaboration
There was a consensus on the importance of safe and adaptable models for regular migration pathways, the need for multi-layered cooperation, and the significance of opening up more opportunities for regular migration to reduce risks and vulnerabilities while strengthening development impacts.
IOM’s Global Goodwill Ambassadors
The IDM coincided with the announcement of IOM’s new Global Goodwill Ambassador, actress, producer, and director America Ferrera. Additionally, Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata, the National Goodwill Ambassador for IOM, used his platform to promote regular migration pathways at the event.

Future Initiatives
Looking ahead, IOM will lead efforts to create an ecosystem that brings together stakeholders to facilitate pathways at scale. The organization will continue working with partners to advance regular pathways as part of its commitment to the 2030 Agenda and the Global Compact for Migration. Discussions on this topic will be furthered in key fora, including the upcoming G7 meeting, the New Agenda for Peace, the Summit for the Future, and the second IDM in Geneva later this year.
