Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Three Military Personnel in Davao de Oro

Three military personnel from the 25th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army (PA) tragically lost their lives in a road mishap at Sitio Boston, Barangay Andap, New Bataan in Davao de Oro. The fallen heroes were laid to rest on Sunday, May 18, in a solemn ceremony attended by their comrades, friends, and family members.

Victims identified

The deceased were identified as Private First Class Jaynor Makakua, the driver of the military truck, and two members of the Cafgu Active Auxiliary, Reynald Balaga, and Ferlan Conception. Their untimely deaths have left a void in the hearts of their loved ones and the entire military community.

Injured Soldiers Under Medical Care

Six soldiers who were injured in the accident are currently receiving treatment at the Davao De Oro Provincial Hospital-Montevista. Among the injured are 1LT Fidel V. Castro, Sgt Michael E. Arzaga, Cpl Emil Joy S. Mission, Pvt Jonel C. Alvarado, CAA Jay Ar Bale, and CAA Kim Ardel Castro. The medical team is working tirelessly to ensure their swift recovery.

Details of the Accident

According to a report from the 10th Infantry Division (10ID), the KM 450 military vehicle of the 25th Infantry Battalion was en route to provide security for a groundbreaking ceremony and the signing of Inter-local Agency Partnership Agreement (Ilapa) at Purok 12, Sitio Boston, Barangay Andap. However, tragedy struck as the vehicle lost control while traversing an inclined road, rolling backward and falling into a river.

Major Ruben Gadut, spokesperson for the 10ID, shared that the military truck’s engine reportedly shut off, leading to the driver losing control of the vehicle. The sudden turn of events has prompted an intensive investigation by the military unit to determine the root cause of the accident.
