**Tragic Murder-Suicide in El Paso County**

In a heartbreaking turn of events, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims of a potential murder-suicide in the Security-Widefield area of unincorporated El Paso County. The woman victim has been named as 25-year-old Esmeralda Contreras-Mata, while the man has been identified as 31-year-old Thabiso Makhafola.

The incident took place on May 16, just after 9 a.m., when the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check on Cottonwood Dr. Upon arrival, they discovered both Contreras-Mata and Makhafola deceased. While the cause of death is yet to be confirmed by the coroner’s office, the sheriff’s office is treating the case as a potential murder-suicide. However, they have assured the community that there is no known threat to public safety.

**Human Remains Found at Colorado Springs Golf Course**

In a separate but equally unsettling development, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) received a report of human remains discovered at the Patty Jewett Golf Course. Officers were called to the scene near a small creek by the sixth hole, approximately 100 yards from the clubhouse. The area was cordoned off as a Metro Crime Lab truck and El Paso County Coroner’s Office vehicle joined the investigation.
