Pedestrian tragically killed in Enmore road accident
On a fateful Sunday evening at around 19:50h, tragedy struck on Enmore Public Road, East Coast Demerara, claiming the life of a 48-year-old resident. The incident, currently under investigation by police in Regional Division 4C, involved a motor lorry with the registration number GTT4579 and a pedestrian identified as Rooplall Haindarsan of Lot 93 Logwood Enmore.
Details of the accident
Reports indicate that the motor lorry, driven by a 37-year-old individual from Agriculture Road, ECD, was travelling west along the southern side of Enmore Public Road at a normal speed. The driver stated that the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road from north to south, directly into the path of the lorry, leading to a collision.
Upon impact, the pedestrian fell to the road surface and suffered severe injuries. Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) rushed to the scene and transported the unconscious victim to Georgetown Public Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, the doctor on duty pronounced the pedestrian dead upon arrival.
Current status of the investigation
At present, the deceased’s body is at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination. The vehicle involved in the accident has been impounded for further analysis, and the driver is currently in police custody assisting with enquiries.
