Investigation in Luwero District
Police authorities in Luwero District are currently conducting an investigation into the murder of Nduwayesu Marie Rose, a 48-year-old Rwandan national. The victim’s lifeless body was discovered at Klne Guest House in Kizito zone, Luwero Town Council, with her Rwandan National Identity Card. Initial findings suggest that the heinous crime took place on Saturday, May 18, 2024.

Primary Suspect on the Run
The main suspect in this tragic incident has been identified as Gerald Byamugisha, who is currently evading the authorities. According to Sam Twineamazima, the spokesperson for the Savannah Regional Police, Byamugisha, without providing any additional personal information or contact details, checked into the guest house with the deceased at 2 pm on that fateful Saturday. They both occupied the room until 5 pm, when Byamugisha abruptly left by himself, raising no immediate suspicions.
Uncovering the Gruesome Scene
The exact nature of the relationship between the suspect and the victim is still unclear. The following morning, a room attendant made a horrifying discovery when they found Nduwayesu’s body. The deceased was found lying face up with her head wedged under the toilet seat, and a yellow piece of cloth, presumably used in the strangulation, was tightly fastened around her neck.
Swift Police Response
Upon being alerted by the cleaner, Lameka Kigozi, the proprietor of the guest house, promptly informed the Luwero Central Police Station (CPS). Law enforcement swiftly responded to the report and officially filed a murder case. To aid in the ongoing investigation, CCTV footage from the premises was retrieved. While several suspects have been taken into custody, their identities have not yet been disclosed.
Continued Investigations
Mr. Twineamazima stated, “The pair spent approximately 3 hours in the room before the suspect departed alone. Once the guest house owner contacted the police, the crime scene was inspected, and a murder case was registered. We have detained some suspects to assist in the investigation as we actively pursue the main suspect.”

Autopsy and Crime Statistics
Following the grim discovery, the body of the deceased was transported to the Luwero Hospital morgue for a detailed autopsy. Unfortunately, murder continues to be a pressing issue in Luweero, as indicated by the latest police crime report for the district. In 2023 alone, there were a total of 90 recorded murder cases, contributing to an overall increase in crime rates. The district reported a total of 4,111 cases in 2023, compared to 3,902 cases in 2022 and 2,880 cases in 2021.
