Shiv Sena (UBT) Workers Arrested After Clash in Mulund

In a recent altercation in Mulund, Mumbai, five party workers from the Shiv Sena (UBT) were arrested by the Mulund police. The incident occurred on Friday night when a clash broke out between two groups in the area. The BJP has alleged that the office of their Mumbai North East candidate, Mihir Kotecha, was attacked during the scuffle.

Arrest and Charges

The police identified the arrested individuals as Abhijit Chavan, Gurujyot Singh Keer, Rohit Chikane, Dinesh Jadhav, and Pratiksha Kotak. These individuals have been remanded in police custody for one day, as stated by a police officer. The altercation has led to charges being pressed against the accused under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

Incident Details

According to reports, followers of Sanjay Dina Patil gathered outside the BJP Mihir Kotecha’s office in Mulund, alleging the distribution of money. The incident took place just hours before the scheduled mega rallies by different alliances in the city. A complaint was lodged through the C-VIGIL application, prompting the flying squad officers to investigate the matter.

Seizure of Cash

Upon reaching the spot, the flying squad officers discovered cash exceeding the limit of ₹50,000. The individuals present claimed that the money was designated for daily office expenses and assured the submission of relevant documents. However, the squad decided to seize the cash. This action led to a confrontation with the workers present at the scene, who demanded to know the amount of cash and even attempted to retrieve it forcibly.

Legal Action

In response to the altercation, a case was registered against the flying squad officers under sections 353, 332, 341, 143, and 147 of the Indian Penal Code. These sections pertain to assault, causing harm, wrongful restraint, unlawful assembly, and rioting. The police are currently investigating the matter further.
